Ingredients for Keto Turkey Wraps
As always, this is a quick overview of the ingredients you need for this recipe. To get the complete, printable recipe just keep scrolling:
- Lettuce: any variety you prefer but I suggest Iceberg or romaine for a nice crunch.
- Cheese: provolone cheese pairs excellent with turkey, but you can use your favorite variety.
- Turkey: cajun turkey can usually be found at the deli counter, we love Boar’s Head.
- Red Onion: yes, you can have onions on a low carb, keto diet. You just need to use them sparingly.
- Tomato: if you find your tomato has a lot of moisture pat them dry with a paper towel before assembling.
- Other Ingredients: as always, add salt and pepper to taste. Also, we love the addition of Boar’s Head Chipotle Mayonnaise for a kick, but that is optional.
How do I make a Turkey Lettuce Wrap?
- Tear a 12 inch square of parchement paper to use as your base.
- Place 2-3 lettuce leaves in the center of the paper so they slightly overlap creating a solid barrier.
- Add the two slices of cheese, spread the chipotle mayo over the cheese if using, top with turkey, onion, tomato slices and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Use the paper to help you roll it very tightly like a burrito.
Do I have to use Cajun Turkey?
If you prefer, you can use your favorite variety of deli turkey. This is excellent with roasted deli turkey, mustard and mayonnaise. Use your personal favorite ingredients to make this easy turkey wrap.
Tips for Lettuce Wraps
- Start with paper: use wax or parchment paper to create a base to help you roll your wrap tightly. Lettuce can tear or shift as you roll and this is the perfect way to secure it. It also makes it easy for packing in a grab-and-go lunch!
- The type of lettuce matters: If you want a good crunchy wrap be sure to use fresh iceberg lettuce. Romaine is a close second for crunch as well. Alternatively, if you prefer a softer lettuce that you can really stuff without tearing too easily, use Bibb lettuce.
- Layer your ingredients: Right after the lettuce I always add the cheese before adding any sauces or vegetables, the lettuce, then cheese creates a good barrier to keep everything inside the wrap.
Is Lettuce Keto?
Yes! Lettuce is a great option for substituting bread or a tortilla while still staying on a keto diet. You can enjoy any variety of lettuce or greens on a low carb diet. Some staples in our house hold are romaine, Iceberg, collard greens, and spinach.
How long is a lettuce wrap good in the fridge?
This wrap can be made 24 hours in advance. Since the wrap has vegetables such as tomatoes that contain moisture the wrap will be soggy if made more than one day in advance. Just use the paper to tightly roll the lettuce wrap and secure with tape. Store in the fridge.
