Today I’m sharing an easy flavorful grilled chicken recipe that you will be making all summer long! This Grilled Chipotle Chicken is one of my go to summer recipes. It has a smokey sweet flavor that pairs so well with all of my favorite summer side dishes like these Crispy Zucchini Fries!
What ingredients do you need to make Chipotle Chicken?
You only need a few basic ingredients to make this sweet and spicy chipotle chicken! You will need:
- Chicken breast
- Honey
- Adobo Sauce (see below)
- Lime Juice
- Garlic Powder
- Garlic Salt
What is adobo sauce?
All of the ingredients in this recipe are pretty basic, with one exception. You might not be familiar with adobo sauce. If you have never used this I can assure you it will become a new pantry staple! Adobo sauce is a traditional Mexican sauce that normally features Ancho and Guajillo chili peppers as well as spices and vinegar. It is usually thick like BBQ sauce and has a smokey, earthy flavor.
You can make your own, but you can also purchase this at your grocery in the ethnic food section. Sometimes there are small cans of only adobo sauce, however you can easily find canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. I use the chipotle peppers for other recipes and use the adobo sauce to make this marinade.
How do you make Grilled Chipotle Chicken?
- Combine the honey, adobo sauce, lime juice, garlic powder and garlic salt.
- Microwave for 20 seconds or until smooth.
- Place chicken in a plastic bag and pour marinade over chicken, refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Grill for 3 minutes on each side or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
How should I serve Grilled Chipotle Chicken?

- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons adobo sauce
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
